i want to change my flight date. flying with air france. is it possible?

guru asked:

I purchased a roundtrip air france ticket a month ago from JFK to Istanbul, Turkey. I have been in Istanbul since December 23rd and originally my return flight was scheduled on the 19th of January. I want to change the date to the 16th. I purchased my ticket online and I could not find any information on the website. Before I give Air France a call I wanted to ask it here. Is this change possible? Will I have to pay a lot of many to do such a change? If so how much?
Thank you!

I know that it is possible, but you may have to pay a fee in order for you to change. It will depend also if they have enough seats on that flight as well. Don’t cancel the other one until you’re sure that you’re able to get a seat on the 16th flight.

Yes, you should be able to make the change. However, Air France will do the following:

    (1) They’ll take what you paid for your ticket. Actually, it’s the portion of your ticket for this particular flight segment.

    (2) They’ll look at what a ticket costs now for that segment. If it’s more than what you’ve already paid, you’ll need to pay the difference. If less, you MAY be entitled to a refund, although I wouldn’t count on it.

    (3) In addition, you’ll have to pay, I think $150 to make the change. The amount might be slightly different.

#3 will be waived, of course, if you have a “fully refundable” ticket.

Call them. You may even be able to negotiate.

It’s possible that Air France will not allow the change if the ticket you purchased is non-refundable and non-changeable. The answers you were given assume that the ticket you purchased allows changes, but this isn’t always the case. It’s not uncommon, in fact, to find that many discounted international tickets don’t allow changes to be made, period (even if you’re willing to pay for them).

If changes are allowed to your ticket, you’ll be responsible for the change fee, and you may be responsible for any differences in the fare between what was originally paid and what the current cost is. This could well be hundreds of dollars — but the only people who will be able to tell you how much the change will cost (and, in fact, whether the change can be made at all to begin with) will be Air France.
